With the excitement of 2016 Olympics in Rio approaching, Frank Karkazis celebrates victories of Midwestern wrestlers
Three Wisconsin wrestlers walked away with first-place finishes at the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals competition in Fargo, North Dakota on Saturday, July 16th. In addition, three finished in second place, while two others also had top 10 finishes.
Macy Kilty of Stratford, WI defeated Missouri’s Alisha Howk to win the first-place match at 108 pounds. Jayden Laurent of Oconto Falls, WI took first place at 143 pounds, while Hannah Ramos of Kenosha finished ahead of the pack in the 154-pound division.
The Junior Nationals competition comes just weeks before world-class wrestlers will face off at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, beginning August 5. We will see another familiar Midwest face when Emma Randall of Jamestown, OH, coaches the USA Women’s Olympic Wrestling Team. Randall formerly competed for Lockhaven University and will now be an assistant on Terry Steiner’s coaching staff in Rio. According to Xenia Gazette, she is “the first woman to earn Gold Level Certification in the USA Wrestling National Coaches Education Program.”
